The Most Dramatic Kitchen Makeovers

Kitchen makeovers are completed everyday! While some change very little, there are others that change dramatically. When incorporating the word “dramatic” in a kitchen makeover, we’re not talking about painting the cabinets as much as we’re talking about moving them to an entirely different wall.

Then there’s those deceptive “dramatic” kitchen makeovers where the homeowner didn’t actually change much, but somehow it looks like they demolished the whole thing and started over.

Little Green Kitchens went in search of the most dramatic kitchen makeovers we could find, and collected them here to inspire, or just straight up amuse you.

DIY’er Angela Rose’s Kitchen Makeover

Nothing says this kitchen needs a makeover more than a man’s feet. Take them out of the photo and we still have a kitchen that’s cluttered, square and almost entirely one color.

This dramatic kitchen renovation comes for Angela Rose, who’s the queen of DIY interior design. She liked to boast that she scours the internet for premier designs, and then figures out a way to recreate it at a fraction of the cost.

While this particular project was not done on the cheap, it is an example of how amazing a little color, and different floor concept can go a long way toward giving your kitchen a different feel.

This is indeed a dramatic kitchen makeover, none in the least the fact that men’s feet have been replaced by a smiling woman. That’s Angela, and she’s all smiles because she spent $200 making that $4200 table, which is a staple of what she does.

What she also does is transform kitchens and the interior of houses. We like the contemporary cabinet design that she’s matched with dark colors, which is actually pretty uncommon. In 2021, kitchen cabinets that are trending toward modern and contemporary are typically lighter.

But we don’t really care, as this kitchen was in dire need of color. We also love the marble backsplash behind the range, and the giant white hood over it. While we usually like stainless steel for our vent hoods, stainless actually doesn’t pair well with modern and contemporary cabinets, so bravo Angela.

Kristin Spanton’s Kitchen Makeover

This kitchen comes to us from San Diego, California, where Kristin Spanton was faced with a daunting challenge -- remodeling a galley kitchen. Nothing says “I love you” like bumping rear-ends with your cooking partner, but let’s face it, space in kitchens is crucial.

Walls that separated the kitchen from the rest of the house were all the rage in the 1950s. But this is the 21st century, and kitchens need to be open to the rest of the house.

This home was built in the late 1940s with that very structure in mind. But Kristin wanted room to cook with her partner, and a connection with the adjacent living room.

Isn’t the kitchen supposed to be the most social room in the house? That’s why Kristin knocked out an entire wall and joined it with the living room. Counter and floor space were also a real problem for Kristin, and she was able to add both of those by getting rid of the breakfast nook (don’t worry, she just moved it outside), and moving the stove back an entire foot.

Kristin also hit the nail on the head with so many 2021 kitchen trends, as she managed to include a pendant light, quartz countertops, an open concept, and more storage.

Cabinets are also both lovely and necessary, but as you can see from the last two dramatic kitchen makeovers, there are other options. This open shelving concept works because Kristin found shelving from a pre-owned kitchen, and paired them with attractive dishes. Again, bravo Kristin!

Sassy Sweet Southern’s Kitchen Makeover

Sassy Sweet Southern’s (SSS) kitchen comes to us from Instagram, and we just love the fact that she turned a “corner kitchen” (that’s a new term by the way) into something amazing.

SSS was faced with a daunting challenge. The designers of her condo seemed to visualize her hosting a dance class rather than cooking for say, one or two people. Maybe the stairway right in front of the kitchen inspired the designers to close the room off, but what they managed to do was make the kitchen as isolated as a bathroom.

When we saw this first photo we figured that if SSS could open up her kitchen, we’d call that a win, and anything done design-wise would make it a “dramatic” kitchen makeover.

After SSS’s Kitchen Remodel

After SSS’s Kitchen Remodel

As you can see from the photo, this is indeed a “dramatic” kitchen makeover. SSS didn’t knock out one, but two walls. Just like Kristin, SSS took advantage of the voided space created by the absence of a wall, and in its place she installed more counter space.

Speaking of counter space, notice that that microwave is in a far superior position. Without a hood vent, she certainly went electric on her cooktop (that’s code folks), and that enabled her to place the microwave, equipped with a fan, above it.

She also changed the color of her cabinets, and while it’s not the best pairing with the wood floors, you can see that SSS was trying to get away from cabinet wood that didn’t match the hardwood floors. And since she went with a neutral color for her contemporary cabinets, SSS hit a home run.

Best Kitchen Makeover Award Goes to…..

It’s difficult to choose a winner from these dramatic kitchen makeovers. Our vote goes to Kristin Spanton. She was fearless in designing something completely modern in the face of tight quarters, and many logistical problems.

She also chose pieces of her kitchen that came from another kitchen. It’s important to remember that just because you’re tired of your kitchen, you don’t have to trash it. You can actually sell your kitchen. There are valuable parts of your kitchen that might work work splendidly in someone else’s. Many people aren’t even aware that it’s an option to resell their used kitchens.

You have everything to gain and virtually nothing to lose when you sell your existing luxury kitchen. Please reach out to Little Green Kitchens today!  We are happy to answer all your questions or assess the value of your current kitchen!
